Hello Legends,
Welcome back to my blog.
Today, I’ll discuss MSc enrollment options. These options are for Malaysian Certificate of Completion (COC-1) holders. It doesn’t matter whether they have a Bachelor’s degree (BSc) or not.
Malaysia, with its Muslim culture, world-class universities, and affordable living costs, is an attractive destination for higher education. You can still pursue a Master of Science (MSc) program even without a BSc certificate. If you’re passionate about advancing your knowledge and skills. There are alternative pathways to consider. In this article, we’ll explore how non-BSc certificate holders can navigate their way toward an MSc degree in Malaysia.
Non-BSc Holder
There are some internationally recognized ways to get an equivalence certificate against COC-1. UK, India and other countries have provided such certificates since the very beginning. Malaysians also have such ways for the same.
Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) provides certificates for various industry professionals. To get an equivalence certificate from MQA, it requires a Board of Engineers Malaysian (BEM) membership as a graduate engineer.
Let’s discuss how to get “BEM Membership:”

Admission / Enrollment Procedure
Lets discuss admission/ enrollment in any Malaysian University for MSc.
Actually, as a seafarer, I believe you will choose the research-based programme, which can be done besides sailing. Let’s rephrase those essential steps for seafarers aiming to pursue a research-based MSc program while balancing your sailing career:
Craft Your Research Proposal:
Begin by preparing a well-defined research proposal. Choose a subject that aligns with your interests and expertise. Consider practical aspects—can you access data or collaborate with experts while at sea?
Select Your Supervisor and University:
Seek out a Supervisor who shares your research interests. Reach out to potential supervisors and discuss your proposal.
Once a university and supervisor are on board with your research plan, the university will issue an offer letter.
Document and Apply for EMGS/Visa:
Upon receiving the offer letter, complete the necessary documentation. This includes financial proof, medical fitness, and other requirements. Apply for a visa to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS).
Enrollment and Flight:
Upon receipt of eVAL, get the sticker on the passport. That’s it! You’re ready for enrollment. Plan your travel to Malaysia, where you’ll officially begin your MSc journey.
Conclusion
While a BSc is the traditional route, non-BSc certificate holders can still pursue an MSc degree in Malaysia. Be proactive, explore options, and showcase your determination. Remember, your passion and commitment matter most!
Good luck on your journey toward academic excellence! 🎓✨
